Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and producer Gaby Moreno has made remarkable strides. since leaving her native Guatemala for Los Angeles, releasing nine albums along the way. Her accolades include a Grammy for X Mí (Vol. 1), Grammy nominations for Alegoría (Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, 2023) and Illusion (Best Latin Pop Album, 2017), two Latin Grammy Awards (Best New Artist, 2013; Best Traditional Tropical Album, 2023), and Latin Grammy nomination (Best Long Form Music Video 2025). She earned an Emmy nomination for co-writing the Parks and Recreation theme song and has shared stages worldwide with artists like Bono, Andrea Bocelli, Tracy Chapman, and Buena Vista Social Club.

Moreno's versatility extends to television and film, where she voiced Marlena and performed the theme song for Disney's Elena of Avalor, contributed to Guillermo Del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, and wrote "El Saber" for the acclaimed film Radical. Trombonist and bandleader Nick Finzer brings his acclaimed quartet to the stage for an evening built around a simple idea: every song has a story. Drawing from his forthcoming release Songs & Stories, Chapter One (out October 16, 2026 via Outside in Music), Finzer pairs jazz standards and original music with the people, places, and moments that shaped them — from an arrangement forged on the road with saxophonist Lucas Pino to "With Gratitude," a piece written just days after Finzer's graduation from Juilliard and revisited here for the first time in over a decade.

Expect a set that moves between classic repertoire and personal history, with the stories behind the music told right alongside it.

A band of many roots and one vibrant voice—Brasuka is a Brazilian jazz fusion collective whose music pulses with joy, rhythm, and cross-cultural soul. Based in Dallas, TX, the six members of Brasuka channel their diverse musical backgrounds and cultures through a shared love of Brazilian music to create something entirely their own. Melding the spirit of samba, the pulse of candombe, the nuance of jazz improvisation, and splashes of folk and pop, Brasuka’s sound defies borders. Singing in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, they tell stories that dance between continents—crafted with care, layered with intention, and always alive with groove. Their debut album, A Vida Com Paixão (2021), brought that spirit to the world: a celebration of original compositions and inventive arrangements, created through collective writing, arranging, and performing. Lauded as “addictively joyful” (Exclusive Magazine), “positively infectious” (The Big Takeaway), and “entirely engaging and entertaining” (Phil’s Picks), the album earned 4 stars from DownBeat and All About Jazz and was named one of the year’s best by JazzTimes, Magnet Magazine, and Connect Brazil .Brasuka is not just a band—it’s a collaboration of friends, a tapestry of rhythms, and a living invitation to feel, move, and celebrate.

Hosted by vocalist and educator Whitney James, the evening opens with a house band set from 7:00–7:40 PM, followed by an open jam for musicians to sit in. Musicians of all instruments, levels and backgrounds are welcome. Guitarists, an amp will be provided. Vocalists, we have a mic and PA ready for you!

Grammy award-winning alto saxophonist, composer and author Jim Snidero has been hailed as an “alto sax virtuoso” (Downbeat) with “mind-boggling” improvisation skills (The Guardian), amassing over 20 million streams on Spotify and Apple. In 2024 he reached the pinnacle of the jazz world, placing top 5 alto saxophone in the preeminent Downbeat Magazine International Critics Poll.

Originally from Maryland, Snidero moved to New York in 1981 and began sideman stints with Brother Jack McDuff, Frank Sinatra (recording Duets 2), the Mingus Big Band, Eddie Palmieri, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Sting and Brian Lynch, appearing as a featured soloist on Lynch’s Grammy-winning The Omni-American Book Club. His 27 leader albums include 1989’s Blue Afternoon, later included in The Penguin Jazz Guide: The History of the Music in the 1001 Best Albums; the 2003 self-composed and arranged orchestral Strings on Milestone Records, hailed as a “masterpiece” by the San Francisco Guardian; the Korean-inspired Project-K; and Live at the Deer Head Inn.

Recent years have brought some of the strongest recognition of Snidero’s career. Live at the Deer Head Inn received a five-star 2020 best-of-year “masterpiece” review from DownBeat, while 2024’s chordless trio album For All We Know earned 41⁄2 stars from AllMusic and further acclaim from DownBeat and Stereophile. Snidero’s quartet is a regular on tour circuits throughout Europe and the US.

Jim Snidero’s performance at Windmills will feature original music from his new release “House of Trane”, inspired by a visit to John Coltrane’s house on Long Island.

Jim Snidero (Alto Saxophone)

A DownBeat Critics Poll favorite with over 20 million streams, Jim Snidero is an alto saxophone virtuoso and celebrated composer. He has led 26 acclaimed albums and performed alongside icons from the Mingus Big Band to Frank Sinatra.

Stefan Karlsson (Piano)

Native Swedish pianist Stefan Karlsson brings brilliant technique and modern sophistication to the keyboard, backed by over 85 recordings. A longtime member of the elite Eddie Gomez Trio, his playing seamlessly blends deep jazz tradition with fresh innovation.

Ugonna Okegwo (Bass)

Originally from London, German-Nigerian bassist Ugonna Okegwo moved to New York in 1989 joining the Jackie Terrasson trio, touring and recording several albums for Blue Note records. Beginning in 1997, he joined trumpeter Tom Harrell’s Quintet, considered one of the most important jazz groups on the international jazz scene. He toured with Harrell for over twenty years, recording 6 albums with an undeniable jazz giant.

In addition, he has worked with an impressive list of jazz artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Michael Brecker, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jon Hendricks, Johnny Griffin, Benny Carter, James Moody, Pharoah Sanders and many others

Jason Tiemann (Drums)

Known for his crisp technique and deep propulsive swing, Jason Tiemann is one of New York City’s most sought-after drummers. He currently holds the drum chair for flutist Hubert Laws while sharing stages with stars like Eric Alexander and Randy Brecker.

Multi award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter, pianist and national radio host and 2026 GRAMMY Award nominee Laila Biali has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents from New York City's Carnegie Hall to Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts, and supported international icon Sting. Biali's past four consecutive releases – Wintersongs (2024), Your Requests (2023), Out of Dust (2020), and Laila Biali (2018) – all received JUNO Award nominations and she won the 2019 JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. Wintersongs was also nominated for a 2026 GRAMMY Award alongside heavyweights Elton John & Brandi Carlile, Lady Gaga, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson and Laufey. In 2020 Biali was honoured by SOCAN Music with the Hagood Hardy Award for Excellence in Songwriting following her 2018 win at the Canadian Songwriting Competition for Best Song (Jazz). Biali was the youngest-ever double winner at Canada’s National Jazz Awards, named SOCAN Composer of the Year and Keyboardist of the Year. When Biali isn’t on stage she’s busy hosting CBC Music’s national radio show, Saturday Night Jazz. Biali's signature sound transcends genre, making her a favourite among audiences globally.
